The carriage held but just ourselves and immortality ...
Public
corpsefairy, starchy, and I learned this afternoon that our foster kitten Wakko, who had been in the SPCA vet's office for over a week because of mysterious chronic pain, had been put to sleep over the weekend, unbeknownst to us. I'm sad and also angry -- even though we were still technically just the foster parents, we had grown very attached to her and were planning to adopt her. We didn't even get a chance to say goodbye, much less take her elsewhere for a second opinion on her "neurological condition." I know the SPCA is doing the best it can with limited resources, but it still sucks that they didn't call us before euthanizing her or even keep us updated on what tests they were running on her before that. Poor thing. At least she generally had a happy, if brief, life.

I'm sorry to hear about Wakko, and the lack of communication.

What a sweet-looking kitty.

Poor Wakko - he's so adorable! I'm really surprised that they wouldn't have given you an option or have included you in their decision. I would send them a note or ask them that in the future if they have concerns about any of the kittens that you are fostering to involve you. I wonder if this a neurological condition for which she would have grown out of ...she's so young - do you even know when she was separated from her mama or what she had endured in her past before coming to you?

That's a good idea -- we should do that.

We got them when they were three weeks old and bottle-fed them for several more weeks. They were healthy and without fleas at three weeks so they must have been around their mama before that, and mama was likely an indoor cat. But we didn't have any actual information on who mama was or why they were separated from her so early.

I'm sorry that she had to be put to sleep, though at least she's not in pain anymore.
