I haven't updated my progress in drawing in a while either. We've moved past perspective and into tone drawing. I decided I don't like charcoal - too hard to control. I've included a few charcoal drawings anyway.

The first is an exercise on basic shapes, the second a still-life, and the third the International House.

Wonderful work! I like the light and shadows on your still-life.

Did you construct the first drawing in your head, or were there actual shapes arranged like that for you to draw?

I like! My ability to draw left me in elementary school and I've been envious of people who "keep their arm in." For some reason, my eyes are drawn to the lamp in the still-life, especially the reflections on its dark surface.

Does the International House really have an aura?

That's just what the instructors said in the critique - they said it looked like part of the gates of St. Peter or something. :~) It did actually have a bit of an aura the day I was drawing it - I was looking west at it from the stadium in the late afternoon, and it was a bit hazy. I considered sketching in the bay and San Francisco in the background, but it looked bad in the thumbnails and gesture drawings I tried.

I like a lot! The last time I drew something nice was Jr. High. Since then I've been loathe to pickup anything marker like, or other than a number 2 pencil.
